Behavior

Minor – Teacher Managed

Major – Office Managed

Inappropriate Language

Student engages in low intensity instance of inappropriate language

  • Negative talk

  • Name calling

  • Swearing

  • Profanity that is not directed at others but “slips-out”

  • Use of mild inappropriate words (shut-up, crap, sucks, damn)

  • Unintended hurtful words; show remorse

Verbal messages that include swearing, name calling or use of words in an inappropriate way

  • Blatant swearing

  • Profane Language

  • Directed toward others

  • In abusive manner

  • Offensive/ harassing language

  • Sexual words, innuendos

Disruption

Student engages in low-intensity, but inappropriate disruption

  • Hands/ Feet not in control

  • Student engages in acute but inappropriate disruption

  • Walking around classroom

  • Blurting out

  • Random/ inappropriate comments

  • Throwing objects (indirect)

  • 3 minors of the same offense, will turn into a major

Student engages in behavior causing an interruption in a class or activity that is sustained for a period of time (ongoing behavior)

  • Unresponsive to teacher directions after a cool-down, and the student refuses to process

Defiance, Disrespect, and Non-Compliance

Student engages in brief or low-intensity failure to respond to adult requests

  • Uncooperative

  • Refusal to work

  • Arguing-inappropriate response to teacher request

  • Cheating / lying

  • Mask not on and over the nasal area and covering the chin

  • Not complying with social distancing protocol  

Repetitive minor incidents that normal classroom/recess consequences are not addressing

  • Blatant insubordination



 

Lying, Cheating, and Theft

 
  • Taking another’s property (significant sentimental/monetary value)

  • Student delivers a message that is untrue or deliberately violates rules or harms others

  • Student is in possession of, having passed on, or being responsible for removing someone else’s property or has signed a personal name without that person’s permission

  • Stealing test

  • Defamation of character

Property Misuse

Student engages in low-intensity misuse of property

  • Minor vandalism (writing on desk)

  • Stealing minor items from classroom

  • Throwing a snowball

Student deliberately impairs the usefulness of property. Student participates in an activity that results in substantial destruction or defacing of property

  • Vandalism (breakage)

  • Defacing property

Bullying/ Harassment

  • Name calling, insults, put-downs, disrespectful comments; all of which cease when asked to stop once or twice.

  • 3 minors of the same offense, will turn into a major

Student delivers disrespectful messages (verbal/ non-verbal or gestural) to another person that includes threats and intimidation, obscene gestures, pictures, or written notes. Disrespectful messages include negative comments based on race, religion, gender, age, and /or national origin; sustained or intense

Verbal attacks based on ethnic origins, disabilities or other personal matters.

  • Sustained actions or comments used to have power over another person

  • Any harmful, negative behavior that is done deliberately and is repeated even after the victim asks the bully to stop

  • Includes verbal, physical, indirect/ emotional, spreading rumors, exclusions, and cyber bullying

  • Student delivers disrespectful messages (verbal, gesture, technology) to another person that includes threats and intimidation, obscene gestures, pictures, or written notes

Physical Contact

  • Pushing in line/ pushing back toward someone who initiated contact

  • Bumping into another intentionally/ invading personal space intentionally

  • “Play fighting”/ wrestling/ rough housing

  • Throwing small objects with no intended purpose

  • Student engages in non-serious, but inappropriate physical contact

  • Consensual contact deemed inappropriate by staff

  • “3x” rule

  • HItting (closed fist, slapping, kicking, biting)

  • Assault that leaves a mark or injury

  • Threatening gesture with a dangerous object 

  • Students engaging in “minor” fighting/physical aggression and continue to do so after being redirected

  • Spitting

Electronic Devices

Student engages in non-serious but inappropriate use of cellphone, music/video player, camera and/or computer

  • Texting

  • Earphones in

  • Refuses to give up the device

  • Accessing inappropriate sites on computer

  • Cyber bullying
